Venezuela: Crew Prosecutions Related to Bribery
P&I correspondents in Venezuela, Venepandi, have advised that crew members have recently been prosecuted as a result of attempts to bribe officials.
Anti-bribery legislation has been in place for a number of years and carries significant penalties for both individuals and companies found to have been involved in any form of bribery or corruption.
For example a prison term of up to 20 years may be imposed on a crew member for involvement with bribery and there is also potential for a vessel to be confiscated.
A copy of the Venepandi advice can be read here.
