Senior Claims Executive (New York)

As a Senior Claims Executive in the New York team, you will have the opportunity to work with an industry leading team handling a wide range of claims and to help our shipowner, charterer and manager members navigate legal and commercial challenges.
As part of your day-to-day duties, you will be responsible for handling a wide variety of P&I and Defence Claims including some complex and high-profile cases from their inception through to their conclusion. Building a close relationship with individual members is key to providing the high level of service, as well as working closely with colleagues in the New York team and the wider company to help deliver the highest standard of service.

Your main duties will include:
- Handling and settling third party P&I claims, including personal injury matters, cargo claims, property damage claims, collisions, and pollution claims.
- Handling Defence disputes.
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of how each member’s cover operates.
- Appointing and managing a variety of third-party service providers, such as lawyers, surveyors, consultants, and correspondents.
- Notifying Reinsurers and recovering from both the Pool and excess reinsurers, as well as other contractual parties.
- Assisting with member enquiries relating to current geopolitical and industry issues.
Ideally, you will have:
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- Previous shipping law experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with individual members.
- IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office and adaptability.
- Willingness to travel, and a willingness to go the extra mile to assist our members.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- A Juris Doctor.
- Previous experience working on maritime claims at either a P&I Club, shipowner/ operator/charterer, insurer, or a law firm.
Salary range
- US$125,000 to US$175,000.
