West Africa: Ebola Virus 2018
The World Health Organisation has reported another outbreak of Ebola within the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Currently, reported cases of the new outbreak are far from the country’s main ports, but close to the Congo River. The latest confirmed case of EVD was in Wangata, one of the three health zones of Mbandaka. Other recent reported cases have all been in the Bikoro health zone nearly 150 km from Mbandaka indicating a spread of the virus within urban areas.
WHO has already deployed a team of experts to the region to work with the country’s Ministry of Health to prevent further spread.
As of 15 May, a total of 44 Ebola virus disease cases have been reported: 3 confirmed, 20 probable, and 21 suspected.
Previously, North’s loss prevention team published an EVD fact sheet that can be read HERE.
WHO has also issued an external situation report which can be read HERE.
