UAE: Congestion in the Port of Fujairah
P&I correspondents GAC has reported high levels of congestion in the offshore anchorage.
The port authority has issued “Notice to Agent No 7/2016 Fujairah Offshore Anchorage Area Restriction Due to Congestion”, which covers the procedures and cost as follows:
1. Overnight Stay Charge not applicable to vessels on re-anchoring from Off Port Limit upon getting listed in the Operations Department’s “List of vessels at Fujairah Offshore Anchorage Area. (F.O.A.A.) ”
2. Overstay Charge applicable to vessels on re-anchoring from Off Port Limit if name not listed in the Operations Department’s “List of vessels at F.O.A.A.”
3. Free stay of 10 days at Fujairah Offshore Anchorage should be availed in one shot, not intermittently.
The congestion is mainly in “W” area where vessels are waiting to load bulk cargoes. Therefore the Operations Department have decided to allow only 6 vessels to wait in this area and all others on their arrivals list must wait off port limits.
Obviously in congested conditions, vessels using the anchorage or operating in the vicinity should do so with extra care.
