UAE Compulsory IACS Classification for Certain Flagged Vessels *Update*

From the 1st January 2019 the UAE will require that vessels registered in listed states are classed by a classification society that is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies or with Tasneef (UAE classification society). The latest circular no 15 shows a reduced number of listed states.
The requirement applies to vessels calling at UAE ports or anchor or conducting bunkering operations within the UAE’s EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).
The flag states which must meet the requirement are as follows:
- Albania
- Belize
- DPR of Korea (North Korea)
- Sao Tome and Principe
- Tonga
- Congo
- Equatorial Guinea
- Republic of Moldova

The requirement applies to vessels calling at UAE ports or anchor or conducting bunkering operations within the UAE’s EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).
The 25 flag states which must meet the requirement are as follows:
- Albania
- Belize
- Cook Islands
- DPR of Korea (North Korea)
- Sao Tome and Principe
- Tonga
- Congo
- Cambodia
- Georgia
- Sierra Leone
- Equatorial Guinea
- Vanuatu
- Maldives
- Mauritius
- Moldova
- Palau
- Honduras
- Costa Rica
- Ghana
- St Vincent and the Grenadines
- St Kitts and Nevis
- Bolivia
- Togo
- Tanzania
- Comoros
