Reports suggest vessels that fail to sign SPRO agreements when calling at Chinese ports are facing administrative penalties.
Local correspondent Huatai Insurance Agency & Consultant Service Ltd has issued a circular advising that vessels could receive a fine of up to RMB 50,000 (approximately US$7,800) if they call at a Chinese port without signing a SPRO (Ship Pollution Response Organisation) agreement.
