Philippines – Maritime Security Warning
The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) has been told by authorities in the Philippines that the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) are planning to conduct kidnappings in the Sulu – Celebes Sea East of Sabah.
The ASG are reported to be heavily armed and targeting crews on board foreign vessels in the region.
Reports indicate that the group intend to use an unmarked blue and white local boat known as a Jungkong.
Members are advised to avoid the waters off Eastern Sabah and the Sulu – Celebes Sea when possible, and in any event operate with extreme caution.
