Mind Call at Christmas
Christmas and New Year is supposed to be the season to be jolly.
For some seafarers, the festive period can be difficult, especially if they are far away from loved ones and family.
If you are feeling depressed, lonely or unhappy and would like someone to talk to, it can be difficult whilst at sea.
Mind Call is a free, confidential and dedicated emotional support helpline for seafarers on North entered vessels. The helpline is being provided to seafarers in partnership with seafarer’s charity, ISWAN.
The helpline is available to contact 24 hours a day. 7 days a week and 365 days a year. The Mind Call team speaks Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindi, Russian, Spanish and Tagalog as well as English and you can request a call back, use live chat or send an email instead.
The helpline is also available for seafarers to discuss any concerns that they may have about a colleague’s mental health or wellbeing and to seek advices on how best to help and support them.
Look after each other. If someone is withdrawn or unhappy, don’t just assume they are a ‘Scrooge’. They might be struggling.
