Indonesia – Confusion Over Cabotage Regulations for Coal and Crude Palm Oil
It has been reported that the Indonesian authorities have issued new requirements for vessels exporting coal or crude palm oil – CPO – from the country. However, it is unclear as to the exact requirements and if exceptions can be granted.
The new regulation requires that:
1. An Indonesian sea transport company, and,
2. An Indonesian national insurance company
are to be involved in the carriage. Failure to comply may result in a fine.
Members should check with their exporters before to agreeing to carry coal or CPO from Indonesia as to how they intend to meet these requirements.
The club will continue to monitor the situation and report further when/if clarification is issued.
