Immigration Fines in Argentina
Immigration authorities in Argentina have fined vessels where supernumeraries were found without the appropriate visas.
Argentinian correspondents Pandi Liquidadores have reported an increase in the number of supernumeraries arriving on vessels in Argentina without the correct visas. Supernumeraries are those who travel with a vessel but who are not contracted to work on board a vessel this includes crew family members and riding gangs.
The Argentinian immigration authorities are imposing financial penalties and placing restrictions of movement on these supernumeraries lacking the correct visa. It is understood that the authorities are deploying guards on board the vessel to ensure the supernumeraries cannot leave the vessel. The expenses incurred, which may be considerable, are then charged to the shipowner.
It is suggested that when calling at Argentinian ports Members ensure all persons on board their vessels – crew, passengers or supernumeraries – hold valid and correct visas.
Local agents can be consulted on visa requirements, but information is also available on the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM) website:
