Iceland Announce Stringent Sulphur Regulations
Iceland have announced that a new limit of 0.10% on the sulphur content of marine fuels will take effect on 1 January 2020.
The new cap, which is more stringent than the IMO global cap of 0.50%, will apply to fuels used when vessels are operating within the territorial seas and internal waters of Iceland.
This will require vessels to changeover to 0.10% max fuel oils prior to entering the territorial waters of Iceland.
Vessels fitted with approved exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) can continue to burn fuels with a sulphur content greater than 0.10% when in Icelandic territorial waters.
