Hull Staining in Dakar
A report by Members has advised that oil and other debris floating in the harbour resulted in significant staining to the vessel’s hull.
Correspondents, TCI Africa, have advised that this is not an isolated incident and it is frequent in the Port of Dakar. TCI suggest that the floating oil layers originate from the port’s bunkering pier and also from the fishing port. Correspondents advise that if the hull is stained at Dakar port no fine should be imposed by the local authorities.
From a loss prevention perspective it may be prudent to take photographs of the hull prior to calling at Dakar and to take photos of any floating oil encountered whilst there to provide evidence should there be any difficulties. Professional hull cleaning services are available at Dakar port should they be required.
