Delays Due to Ship Sanitation Certificates in Brazil
P&I correspondents (Proinde) have issued a circular outlining the problems associated with Ship Sanitation Certificates which can be read by clicking here.
The most frequent problem for vessels obtaining free pratique is the failure to produce a valid SSC that has been issued by an authorised port and is within its period of validity. Any extension to a SSC must also be issued by a port on the approved list.
A list of ports authorised to issue Ship Sanitation Certificates under the International Health Regulations (2005) can be found by clicking here.
The World Health Organisation handbook for Inspection of ships and issuance of ship sanitation certificates can be found by clicking here.
Members with vessels calling to Brazil or likely to call to Brazil should ensure that a valid SSC is on board.
