Cyclone Closes Port of Beira in Mozambique *Update*
27 March 2019
Recovery efforts continue following the destructive effects of Cyclone Idai to the port of Beira in Mozambique.
Navigation buoys are now reported to be back in place. The port’s dredger is understood to be back in service but calling vessels should beware of the risk of changes to the channel with silt, sand and other debris following the flooding.
The coal terminal is not receiving vessels and the loading appliance is under repair.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the very high risk of cholera in Beira. Although there appears to be no actual confirmed cases of cholera, the WHO have set up clinics in preparations and are distributing vaccines.
