Brazilian Requirements for Vessel Lay-up
North’s correspondent in Brazil, Proinde P&I have issued a circular regarding lay-up of vessels in Brazilian ports.
The circular outlines that vessels may now lay up in Brazilian ports and terminals. However all vessels in either hot or cold lay-ups will be required to be alongside a quay during the entire period, and are not permitted to lay-up offshore or at anchor.
During the lay-up period inspectors from the port captaincy will conduct vessel inspections every 6 months of the lay-up period to monitor the vessels condition.
The circular also outlines the application process for Members wishing to lay-up in Brazilian ports in order to gain a lay-up certificate. It also states that gaining the lay-up certificate does not exempt owners and charterers from complying with other authorities such as customs, immigration, labour and port health authorities.
